when i was in middle school i made this VERY BAD comic on a furry subreddit, staring a couple people’s oc’s, which had mx and other mario horrorbrews/parodies in it. eventually i got tired of making the thing and decided to quit it. thinking back on it now, ive decided to start making a concept for a reboot of it (minus the oc’s from the subreddit).

setting: the story takes place on bulb isle, housing the koa kingdom. an advanced yet isolated society, home to the koa, a cousin species of koopa. during prehistoric times, mushroom and bulb isle were once both the same island, but broke off from each other over time.

the koa: a cousin species of koopa. after the breakoff, koa had evolved smaller shells for more agile movement, and larger tails for hanging from trees. over time the koa would develop their own society and almost completely urbanize their home island. The koa were able to make tech miles more advanced than other kingdoms. However, the koa had also grown anxious that an enemy invader would try to invade and steal their tech. So they locked down the island, no one comes in, no goes out. anything that tries gets shot down.

the source of the civilizations power and the reason for its quick advancement is an object known as the star singularity, the result of a grand star collapsing in on itself. (basically, a black hole except less deadly and more useful)

the plot: after years of defeat bowser finally decides to change up his game plan. deciding to order the construction of a super weapon, however problems arise when it is found out that the weapon requires more power than what’s available to bowser. so bowser begins making plans for an invasion of bulb island with the sole purpose of stealing the star singularity. knowing that if they were to try what they usually do with the mushroom kingdom, they’d get shot down, or worse, mario would swoop in and the mushroom and koa kingdoms would form an alliance, bowser decides to play things slow, and get creative... (but more on that later)

shelia (pronounced shell-lia) (the protagonist): a rebellious koa teen that can usually be seen roaming the streets and doin, whatever. despite her beign a rebel at heart, she has a respect for her community and her parents, and would do anything to keep them safe.

project XLM (xtra large mario) (this worlds take on MX): an imperfect clone of mario made by bowser’s top scientists with the purpose of sneaking behind the koa’s front lines and stealing the star singularity. while at the same time framing mario. while at first it was just going to be a clone of mario, bowser was given a tiny bit to much creative control over the project and gave him the big form. XLM himself is a narcistic brute that only really works for bowser because it means he gets to destroy more stuff.

tally: a couple years before bowser’s plan. a headless and seemingly short circuited prototype for robo mario washed up on the shores of bulb isle. it was found by local residents and was taken in for examination, only for it to disappear the next day, also seemingly taking a tv with it. since then multiple sightings of it have been reported, along with several unsolved disappearances. tally is now considered an urban legend by most of the koa (even having a few horror movies based off of him) being a sort of "boogieman" that stalks the forest.

mario and luigi’s sprites: (cause of course the bros would show up eventually)

spark bulbs: a powerup native to bulb isle (and the isles namesake) spark bulbs share a distant common ancestor with fire flowers. spark bulbs allow the user to shoot lightning strikes out of their hands.

W.A.L.L nut: an entirely artificial powerup made by the koa that generates a force field around the user giving them an extra hit. this can be used with other powerups, allowing someone to stack 4 hits instead of 3. due to it being entirely mechanical it wont disappear after use. but rather will enter a "recharge state", after it charges up, it’ll reactivate and be usable again. however, due to this, the W.A.L.L nut is to heavy to carry by hand, rendering it entirely stationary.

this is everything i currently have for the reboot's concept. might post more if i make more.
